Biography
Mike practices in our Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group and represents clients in personal injury matters. Mike is a strong advocate for his clients’ interests; he has earned a reputation for creating successful negotiation and settlement strategies and has built an excellent practice representing clients in complex legal disputes.
In addition to representing clients in Mediation, Arbitration and Judicial Dispute Resolution settings, Mike has successfully advocated on his clients’ behalf in all levels of the Alberta Courts, including the Alberta Court of Appeal, the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta and the Alberta Court of Justice.
Mike has achieved outstanding results for his clients while involved in several challenging and catastrophic injury claims. In particular, Mike represented several professional athletes in relation to injuries sustained at no fault of their own. This included a member of the National Hockey League who suffered career-ending injuries sustained in an on-ice incident. In addition, Mike navigated a litigation involving two young sisters involved in a horrific car accident that led to the tragic loss of several family members, along with life‑altering injuries of their own. Mike also successfully took on a major grocery store at trial and had them found 100% responsible for an incident that led to an individual sustaining a shoulder injury requiring surgical intervention.
Prior to commencing practice as a lawyer, Mike received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University. He then completed law school at the University of Windsor in 2008 before returning to Calgary to practice law with his father, Victor Vogel KC, and the rest of the team at Vogel LLP.
Mike is a leader in the Calgary legal profession, having sat on the executive committee on the Personal Injury Subsection of the Canadian Bar Association’s Southern Alberta Branch along with the Young Lawyers Subsection prior to that. Earlier in his career, Mike successfully raised over $75,000 as Chair of the Calgary Anne Frank Exhibit Committee as he oversaw a team that brought this prestigious exhibit for over 10,000 students to visit at City Hall in Calgary. Mike has also served as a director of the Learning Disabilities Association and organizes our firm’s participation in fundraising and community events.
