Update to the Federal Child Support Guidelines

Update to the Federal Child Support Guidelines 2017The Federal Child Support tables (the “tables”) set out the basic monthly amounts of child support under the Federal Child Support Guidelines (the “Guidelines”). The Guidelines are a government-created tool that set out the basic amount of child support payable by parents after divorce or separation. The Guidelines and the corresponding tables have been in force since late 2011; until recently, both the Guidelines and the tables have reflected calculations in accordance with the 2011 tax rules.

A long-awaited update to the Guidelines and corresponding tables is coming into effect on November 22, 2017. Until that date, the 2011 tables will continue to apply.

The updated Guidelines and tables have been amended to reflect the most recent tax rules. The updated tables can be accessed here.
