Pedestrian Injuries

Mandeep Dhillon

According to the City of Calgary pedestrian collision data, at least one person is hit by a vehicle each day in the city of Calgary[1]. What makes this statistic even worse is that pedestrians are amongst the most vulnerable accident victims, as they have no protection when a vehicle collides with them. This results in a disproportionally high number of serious or even fatal injuries that can occur in the event of a pedestrian accident.

Unfortunately, it can quickly go from bad to worse for a pedestrian accident victim as they may realize that the driver has fled the scene of the accident or that the driver is not insured. These scenarios often leave the pedestrian accident victim confused and frustrated if they are able to make a claim to receive compensation for their injuries. At Vogel LLP we are here to use the resources we have available to us to help you search for the responsible driver or navigate you through the Alberta’s Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Program which was created in 1947 to protect the victims injured by uninsured or unknown drivers.

Many people are unaware that if they are injured as a pedestrian in an accident involving a vehicle, they are likely entitled to no-fault treatment and disability benefits. The automobile insurer of the motor vehicle that struck you or your automobile insurance policy is responsible for providing such benefits to you, commonly referred to as “Section B” Benefits.

Pedestrian accidents frequently become more complex than a standard motor vehicle accident which can place unnecessary stress on the victim. Having a lawyer on your side will give you the space to concentrate on your primary goal; recuperating from your injuries. By stepping in to deal with paperwork and procedures on your behalf, we protect you from the legal side which will better allow you to focus on your recovery. Retaining a pedestrian accident lawyer early on will protect your rights.
