Biography
Johnny Pak KC is an experienced litigator having appeared before all levels of courts in the province of Alberta. He practices in our Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group where his focus is catastrophic and serious injury litigation.
As a zealous advocate, Johnny prosecutes bodily injury and fatality claims to successful and fair resolution. Providing sound guidance and advice, he helps the injured and their families navigate through the complex litigation and insurance systems and processes. His significant injury litigation experience includes fatalities, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, fractures, jaw/dental injuries, psychological injuries, and chronic pain.
Prior to commencing his plaintiff-side practice, Johnny represented insurers in respect of both first and third party insurance claims. His unique background allows him to provide his clients with insight into the insurance industry and defence tactics. Johnny uses his extensive experience acting both for and against insurers to achieve superior results.
In addition to his injury and insurance related experience, Johnny previously articled and practiced at a national/international law firm. In this regard, he acted as counsel for a variety of clientele including national and multinational corporations in a wide range of contractual and commercial disputes.
Johnny is well respected by the Bar and the Bench. In his role as an Advisor with the AdvisorLink Program, he is trusted to provide guidance to lawyers outside the firm seeking help and advice regarding civil litigation matters and practice management. He is an instructor for the Trial Advocacy Course at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Law. He previously taught and evaluated oral advocacy for the Alberta Bar Admission Program (CPLED) for many years. He is author of the Alberta Limitations Manual, the recognized textbook covering all limitation statutes and jurisprudence in the province.
Johnny was appointed King’s Counsel (KC) in 2024. The KC designation is conferred to select lawyers who are recognized for their exceptional skill, competence, professional integrity, and significant contributions to the legal profession and community.
As a Taekwondo Martial Arts Master, Johnny was awarded with the prestigious Letter of Commendation from the President of the Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters in South Korea) on October 24, 2023, in recognition of outstanding contribution to the development and dissemination of Taekwondo.
