2014 Alberta Law Conference

2014 Alberta Law ConferenceThe 2014 Alberta Law Conference, run by the Alberta Branch of the Canadian Bar Association, will take place on January 30th and 31st at the Westin Calgary. This annual educational conference is a great opportunity for lawyers and judges to refresh their knowledge and network within the community. This year, 70 judges and justices across the province have registered to attend.

Family lawyers will want to pay particular attention to the panel entitled “Hot Topics in Family Law: don’t get burned”, where Vogel LLP will be presenting its latest paper on the topic of spousal support. Abby Griener, who authored the paper, will be discussing spousal support trends in Alberta and the use of the Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines Exceptions. The Exceptions are an often forgotten but useful tool when advocating for clients, and we think it’s important to be aware of recent judicial trends in ordering spousal support to prevent “getting burned” as the title of the panel suggests. Make sure you don’t miss out!
